Albert Joseph Martin III was born on January 5, 1944 in Troy, NY and died on November 19, 2024 in New Orleans, LA, while on a day trip with his beloved Sertoma Club, but not before getting in one last bet at the casino, one more puff of a cigar, and one last sip of beer with that undeniable joie de vivre he was known for. Al was one of those people who made a new friend everywhere he went. For him, every interaction with another was a chance to learn, laugh, and engage, and he relished every opportunity he goAl was an extremely lucky person. He won countless games of cards, cribbage, and anything else he played. He was competitive for sure, but he also had an undeniable good fortune when it came to games of chance. Just ask anyone in his NASCAR group or football pool how many times he won. A trip to the casino almost always meant he’d be playing with house money. That’s just the way it went for Al. Al’s good fortune wasn’t just reserved for games of chance, he was also lucky in love, finding it four times over the course of his well-lived life, most recently marrying his longtime companion, Darwin, earlier this year. Darwin and Al went on many trips and shared lots of good times over their years together. Al also had a deep love for his mother, Marion, whose zest for life likely matched his own. When Al was 69, he and his brother agreed to help her celebrate her 90th birthday by going skydiving together! Al never gave up on love or those he loved. He was passionate, independent, and never shied away from giving his opinion. For better or worse he loved and lived with a heartfelt and powerful intensity. He was always there to listen, give advice, or just share a beer. If it was Coors Light all the better. He had an easy laugh and gave great hugs. His tough exterior sometimes shielded his sensitive side, however those close to him knew how sentimental about life he was, and how much he loved his wife, all his children, and his family and friends. Al was extremely smart (he was a math whiz who skipped 4th grade) and was extremely social, involving himself in whatever was going on around him. He was a member of the Sertoma Club in Pensacola, FL for 27 years, the Elks Club for over 50 years, and spent nearly 20 years as a member of the Knights of Columbus in Wallingford, CT. He leaves many good friends and loved ones in FL, CT, NY, and beyond feeling sad and a little bit lost without him, which is ironic because Al never asked for directions as he always knew where he was going! Al was the loving husband of Darwin Wenzler, of Pensacola, FL, and father of AJ (Chris) Martin of Hyannis, MA, Scott (Luanne) Martin of Brewerton, NY, Tim (Jen) Martin of Cicero, NY, Chip Mowers of West Monroe, NY, Christy (TJ) Bush of Richland, NY, Becky (Kevin) Wise of Wallingford, CT, and Sarah (Marc) Guertin of North Haven, CT. He was the brother of Jeff (Jane) Martin of Milton, FL. Al has many grandchildren that will miss him, along with lots of good friends and extended family. He was predeceased by his second wife, Linda Martin, parents, Albert Martin and Marion Martin Stangler, and ex-wife Rose Martin New Orleans Funeral and Cremation Service "Celebrating Life"
